Stephan Rügamer studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Lübeck,
completing his studies with James Wagner. 1996 - 1998 engage-
ment at the Lübeck Theatre where he had the opportunity to sing
the main roles of the lyric tenor's repertoire.
Since 1999 Stephan Rügamer has been a member of the Berlin
State Opera ensemble, engaged by Daniel Barenboim. At this
prestigious house he has sung in several productions such as Die
Meistersinger von Nürnberg / David, Ring Cycle / Loge, Mime, Der
fliegende Holländer / Erik, Die Zauberflöte / Tamino, Boris Godu-
nov / Shuysky, The Gambler / Marquis, Elektra / Aegisth, Lulu /
Maler, Neger, Katya Kabanová / Tichon, Boris, Jenufa / Laca, Die
Verlobung im Kloster / Don Jeronimo, Szenen aus Goethes Faust /
Ariel (2017, reopening of the Berlin State Opera), Fin de partie /
Nagg (2025).
Mr. Rügamer has appeared as a guest artist at the opera houses in
Frankfurt, Essen and Leipzig as well as at the Dresden, Hamburg,
Munich and Stuttgart State Operas, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in
Paris (Matteo / Arabella), at the Teatro Real Madrid (Boris / Katya
Kabanová), at the Teatro alla Scala di Milano (Marquis / The Gam-
bler, Loge / Das Rheingold, Jelissej Bomeli / Zarskaja newestra), at
the Grand Théâtre de Genève (Hauptmann / Wozzeck) and at the
Opéra National de Paris.
Guest appearances at the Bregenz and Salzburg Festivals, in
St. Petersburg “Festival of the White Nights” (Das Rheingold / Loge
under Valery Gergiev), Ruhrtriennale 2023: Aus einem Totenhaus /
Filka Morosoff).
