Jochen Kupfer was born in Grimma / Saxony and received his
musical education at the Musikhochschule in Leipzig completing
his studies attending masterclasses of Aldo Baldin, Dietrich
Fischer-Dieskau and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. He is a prize winner of
several prestigious singing competitions.
First engagement at the State Theatre Meiningen, followed by an
engagement as a company member of the Dresden State Opera for
serveral seasons. He had the opportunity to add to his repertoire
roles like Conte Almaviva / Le Nozze di Figaro, Papageno / Die
Zauberflöte, Guglielmo / Cosi fan tutte. In order to develop into a
more dramatic repertoire, Jochen Kupfer accepted an engagement
of the Nuremberg State Opera (roles like Jochanaan / Salome,
Faninal / Der Rosenkavalier, Orest / Elektra, Beckmesser / Die Meis-
tersinger von Nürnberg, Guillaume Tell / title role, Kurwenal /
Tristan und Isolde, Mandryka / Arabella, Gunther / Götterdämme-
rung, Wozzeck / title role, 2017 and Chorèbe / Les Troyens, 2017).
Guest appearances among others at the Berlin and Munich State
Operas, the Leipzig Opera and international festivals including the
Schleswig-Holstein, Montreux, Ravenna, Salzburg and Ils de France
Festivals. Engagements include among others his debuts at the
New National Theatre Tokyo, at the Operá National du Rhin Stras-
bourg (Tannhäuser / Wolfram) and at the Teatro Colón Buenos
Aires. Glyndebourne Festival, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg /
Beckmesser (2016).
Jochen Kupfer develops also an impressive concert career as a
Lied recitalist and as a soloist of the leading symphony orchestras
with appearances all over Europe, in Japan, Brazil, Hong Kong and
in the USA (New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco). He has
worked with important conductors including Kurt Masur, Giuseppe
Sinopoli, Philippe Herreweghe, Kent Nagano, Fabio Luisi, Rafael
Frühbeck de Burgos.
