Evelyn Herlitzius

Evelyn Herlitzius is one of the most international acclaimed opera singers, first as dramatic soprano and now as dramatic mezzo soprano. She received her musical education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg. Since her debut at the Dresden State Opera as Leonore / Fidelio  she performed with this company roles such as Salome, Ortrud / Lohengrin, Elisabeth and Venus / Tannhäuser, Isolde / Tristan und Isolde, Brünnhilde / Die Walküre, Siegfried, Götterdämmerung, Kundry / Parsifal, Jeanne / Die Teufel von Loudon, Santuzza / Cavalleria rusticana. In her new repertoire she interprets roles like  Hexe / Hänsel und Gretel, Gräfin / Pique Dame,  Herodias / Salome, Amme / Die Frau ohne Schatten. Evelyn Herlitzius has appeared at all the major opera houses throughout Europe and Japan, including the Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Vienna State Operas, the Staatsoper Unter den Lin- den Berlin (Jenufa / Kostelnicka, Elektra / Klytämnestra) the Deut- sche Oper Berlin (complete Ring Cycle, Salome / Herodias, Auf- stieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny / Leokadja Begbick), Dutch National Opera Amsterdam (Jenufa / Kostelnicka), Opéra National de Paris (Lohengrin / Ortrud), Teatro alla Scala di Milano (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk / Katerina Izmaylova, Wozzeck / Marie, Lohen- grin / Ortrud), Zurich Opera (Dialogues des Carmélites / Madame de Croissy, Die tote Stadt / Brigitta). Metropolitan Opera New York (Parsifal / Kundry), Duke Bluebeard’s Castle / Judith (Theater Basel, 2022 and Teatro Real Madrid, 2025). Teatro San Carlo Napoli (Elektra / Klytämnestra, 2024). Sir Simon Rattle engaged her for Schönberg's Erwartung with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for concerts in Berlin and New York. Pierre Boulez invited her to sing with the Vienna Philhar- monic Orchestra (Glagolitic Mass). 2020: Stuttgart State Opera, Das Lied von der Erde (staged version). After her debut with the Bayreuth Festival in 2002 as Brünnhilde, Evelyn Herlitzius received re-invitations for the Ring Cycle, for Parsifal / Kundry, Lohengrin / Ortrud and Tristan und Isolde / Isolde, Festival d'Aix en Provence (Elektra / title role). Verbier Festival (Die Frau ohne Schatten / Amme). Salzburg Festival (Die Frau ohne Schatten / Färberin, Lear / Goneril, Katja Kabanova / Kabanicha). Evelyn Herlitzius has worked with many important conductors and stage directors including Sir Georg Solti, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Daniel Barenboim, Daniele Gatti, Valery Gergiev, Jakub Hrusa, Adam Fischer, Sir Simon Rattle, Christian Thielemann, Sir Donald Runnicles, Fabio Luisi, Kent Nagano; Patrice Chereau, Willy Decker, Jürgen Flimm, Andreas Homoki, Barry Kosky, Harry Kupfer, Christof Loy, Hans Neuenfels and Christoph Schlingensief. Evelyn Herlitzius has been awarded the Kammersängerin title (2002). She has also received the "Christel-Goltz-Prize" (1999) and the ”Deutsche Theaterpreis Faust" (2006).
