Alan Opie
Baritone
Alan Opie studied at the Guildhall School of Music and the London
Opera Centre. Some of his operatic roles include Germont / La
Traviata, Valentin / Faust, Taddeo / The Italian Girl in Algiers,
Sancho Panza / Don Quixotte, Eisenstein and Falke / Die Fleder-
maus, Melitone / The Force of Destiny, Sharpless / Madama
Butterfly, Der Spielmann / Die Königskinder, Papageno / Die Zau-
berflöte, Malatesta / Don Pasquale and the title roles in Falstaff
and Rigoletto.
Alan Opie is a regular guest at the Metropolitan Opera New York,
Teatro alla Scala die Milano, Vienna State Opera, Munich State
Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Santa Fe Festival, Glyndebourne
Festival Opera, English National Opera and Royal Opera House
Covent Garden. At ENO he was nominated for the ”Outstanding
Achievement in Opera” Olivier Award for his performance of
Falstaff.
Recent appearances have included the leading role in the world
premiere of Michael Berkeley's opera For You at the Linbury
Theatre, Covent Garden and United Kingdom tour, his return to the
Teatro alla Scala di Milano as Kolenaty in The Makropoulos Case
and singing the title role in Falstaff for Opera National du Rhin,
Strasbourg and to Opera Australia in the title role of Rigoletto and
as Falstaff at the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires.
