Gabriela Scherer was born in Zurich. She received her musical education
at the Mozarteum Salzburg and completed her studies attending master-
classes of Angelika Kirchschlager, Francisco Araiza and Barbara Fink.
In 2005 Gabriela Scherer was a prize winner of the International Compe-
tition of the Kammeroper Rheinsberg where also she gave her debut as
a professional singer (role debut Hänsel / Hänsel und Gretel). The young
artist has been a regular member of the Leipzig Opera during the season
2007 / 2008 performing roles like Annio / La clemenza di Tito, Komponist /
Ariadne auf Naxos, Miss Jessel / The Turn of the Screw followed by an en-
gagement at the Munich State Opera from 2009 until 2011 singing roles
like Fenena / Nabucco, Hänsel / Hänsel und Gretel, Soer Mathilde / Dia-
logues de Camélites and Dorabella / Cosi fan tutte.
Guest appearances include, among others, the Baden-Baden Festival
singing Meg Page / Falstaff under Thomas Hengelbrock.
Due to the development of her voice, Gabriela Scherer changed into a
more lyric-dramatic sopran Fach and the first significant engagement in
her new repertoire takes her to the Lucerne Opera for the title role in
Ariadne auf Naxos (2015). Season 2016-2017: Lübeck Opera (Ariadne auf
Naxos / title role), Leipzig Opera (Le nozze di Figaro / Countess), Opéra
National de Paris (Die Zauberflöte / 1. Dame). NDR Hamburg / NDR Elb-
philharmonie Orchestra (Das Rheingold / Freia, concerts in Hamburg,
Dortmund and Baden-Baden under Thomas Hengelbrock). Season 2017/
2018: Leipzig Opera, Der Freischütz / Agathe (role debut).
Gabriela Scherer won several international singing competitions. She has
worked with conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, John Elliot Gardiner,
Lawrence Foster, Christopher Hogwood, Kent Nagano and Simone Young
and important stage directors including Philippe Arlaud, David Pountney,
Giancarlo del Monaco and Nicolas Joel.
